We will meet our guides at Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza and will head north to Theth Valley in the Albanian Alps.
Theth is known by foreign tourists as the Last Paradise of Europe. It is a village located in northern Shala Valley nestled in Theth National Park which was established in 1966 to protect the ecosystem, biodiversity, cultural and historical heritage of the region.
Theth National Park covers rugged terrain with an area of 26.3 sq km / 10.15 sq mi and ranges in altitude from approximately 1200 m / 3937 ft to the summit of Radohima at 2567 m / 8422 ft.
The village is encompassed on four sides by two-thousanders, mountains that have a height of at least 2,000 m / 6562 ft above sea level but less than 3,000 m / 9843 ft. Radohima is in the west, Arapi and Poplluka are in the north and Jezerca is in the east. Standing at 1795 m / 5,889 ft, the Valbona Pass leads a mountain path in the west, which separates the park from the Valbona Valley National Park. Like most of the Albanian Alps, the park is dominated by limestone and dolomite rocks and shows major karst features such as the Grunas Canyon and the southern wall of Arapi, which is considered the highest rock face in the Balkans.
Set among the peaks of the Shala mountains, Theth is isolated, and in times of snow, practically inaccessible. Despite this situation, using our 4WD vehicles modified for wild and difficult terrain we are lucky to explore Thethi valley all year. Accommodation in a guest house.
