Midwives for Haiti

Midwives for Haiti is a grassroots, community led organization located in Haiti's Plateau Central. While Haiti has the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the western hemisphere, MFH's staff of 68 Haitian midwives and support staff work tirelessly to provide safe, compassionate care for pregnant and birthing women.

At Midwives for Haiti we deal in optimism. We believe that people are inherently good, that human life, regardless of where we live, has value, and that love will win out in the end.

However, it gets harder and harder to maintain this confidence, as the situation in Haiti continues to deteriorate.  Almost 5000 people were murdered in cold blood last year, and almost 3000 were kidnapped for exorbitant ransoms, including our own Head Midwife.

Profits from this retreat will go to support our 10 community clinics, two rural birth centers, and a maternal waiting home in our town of Hinche. With your help, we can continue to provide, safe compassionate care for our sisters in Haiti.  For more information, please go to www.midwivesforhaiti.org

In the heart of our journey, Kootenay Yoga School was created from a profound belief in holistic well-being. Recognizing the challenges of modern life, where daily routines can become repetitive cycles of wakefulness, nourishment, work, and rest, we felt the need for a sanctuary that transcends the ordinary. Our vision materialized as Kootenay Yoga School, an embodiment of holistic living.

My Yoga Teacher Training with Kootenay Yoga School in Joshua Tree was nothing short of transformative. The people, the venue, the food, the overall experience was AMAZING...I didn't want to leave!!! I got into yoga later in life and have explored the idea of a 200HR YTT for the last couple of years. I am not your typical yogi, and that may have held me back from giving it a shot. A major change in my professional life led me to looking into programs. I can't tell you how grateful I am that I found Kootenay Yoga School. Shortly after getting into yoga, I knew that I would be doing yoga for the rest of my life. After this program I'm convinced that my practice will now include teaching for the rest of my life. Sarah, Addy, and Lisa promote authenticity. They encouraged us to be ourselves...which I will use as inspiration in my yoga teaching career! If you're considering a program I would highly recommend KYS! And I would highly recommend Joshua Tree...it's truly a magical place. Fire me a note on my social media if you have any questions (I'm not kidding). Lochlin Cross @LochlinCross

WE APPRECIATE THIS - And truly adore you - you are as yogi as them come....there is NO typical. You brought connection to the group that was very recognized and appreciated. Your support for the entire team was nothing short of CANADIAN :) It was a pleasure - but we are not cool with ending it here ..... we will meet again and look forward to hearing where the journey takes you :)

This YTT was amazing. Marcia was an incredible teacher with an open mind and a true passion for her craft. We went deep into the philosophy of yoga via many great talks and we also went deep into discussion of the asanas (poses) with excellent guidance in teaching strategies. The entire staff was amazing, as everyone got along really well and helped make it a fantastic, growing experience. Also, the vegan food was some of the best I've ever had. I will miss the island life and healing ways of Isles Mujeres.

The Program in Isla Mujeres with Stacy (teacher), Lisa&Addy (managers/organizers) is absolutely amazing. The villas (accomodation), food (OMG the food...delicious), activities, studying modalities and general energy/vibe is beyond perfect. I would totally recommend it and would go back today if I had the chance. I learned so much in such a comprehensive and useful way, I enjoyed all the activities proposed in the morning/afternoon/evening, and I truly loved the Island. If you are looking for a serious program, with kind and caring people, amazing food, beautiful location, and you are eager to expand your knowledge in yoga in a way that is respectful to tradition, but allows You to create your own Journey, this is the place. The price is VERY good for what You get. My only recommendation is that You want to stay few extra days before or after the program to explore the island and the mayan riviera, as the program runs all day everyday so You won't have time to be a tourist. I actually enjoyed this way of learning. This experience is great for the soul, mind, body, and breath 💙 thank You to all the amazing people at the punta sur villas and to my amazing group.

An experience I will have with me forever. Lisa the owner of Kooteney is the sweetest person ever. She always checked in to make sure everyone is okay throughout the program. The yoga shala is absolutely beautiful. There are so many positive things to say about this training. My teacher Stacy is amazing. She has so much knowledge. She traveled around the world so it was so cool to get this well-rounded experience. This program allowed me to become my best self, (evolved self). I experienced so much transformation in my practice, myself, and in conversation. This is a place where you truly blossom. SOO grateful to have taken this program and excited to use the abundance of tools I learned here in a new journey. Thank you. The food is also delicious, you are so close to one of the most beautiful beaches, such a magical place to learn, practice, and grow.

What an incredible experience. The staff at Kootenay provide the highest level of care. They go above and beyond to accommodate their students and ensure the highest standards in their meals and education. EJ was an incredible teacher and so encouraging. I felt so welcomed and at home in Joshua Tree. Thank you Lisa, Addy, and EJ!

I have completed the 200-hour yoga teacher training with Kootenay Yoga School at their beautiful location in Isla Mujeres Mexico (a small Island in the Caribbean Sea). Where to start? Sign up and be totally comfortable that u’ll have the best experience. The location is in a jungle vibe, modest, clean & organized. The food is vegetarian, organic, super healthy prepared by a talented young lady - Addy the owner’s daughter, who works hard to make sure every dietary requirement is met. Lisa, the owner, is a professional woman who is very meticulous and follows up with every detail, making the experience worthy. The whole team, from Kandice, Silvia, to the kitchen staff are very helpful and kind. Stephania (Steff) our teacher made every lesson interesting and enjoyable, the fire and energy in her, the knowledge she shared in Anatomy, was outstanding as if a doctor is explaining. The course is intensive, however, well divided throughout the days. Steff is also flexible and no matter how tired one is, we would put the effort to be punctual in her classes and enjoy the information shared. I was lucky to be with amazing people from different countries and cultures, we clicked and had so much fun together. Yes, it’s hot and humid and u need mosquito repellent. It’s not that bad at all. The beach is 5’ walk from the school and it’s breathtaking. So is Punta Sur most easternmost point of Mexico and u get to see numerous iguanas in that region too. I felt so safe in the school and the whole island. 💜🧘🏻‍♀️
