      About this trip

Grab your girlfriends or your spouse and travel to the Capital City of Raleigh for a holiday shopping trip.  Trip highlights include three different shopping districts so you're sure to find just what you need or want.  North Hills Mall known as the "local's favorite" is a giant open-air, walkable district offering more than 130 local shops and fabulous restaurants and cafes.  A wide variety of unique boutiques, specialty shops and a two-level Target line the streets.

This trip also features the region's largest enclosed mall, Crabtree Valley Mall.  The mall boasts over 220 stores and is anchored by Belk, Sears, and Macy's.   Find designer stores like Coach and Michael Kors, a Disney Store for grandchildren gifts and Bag'n Baggage for all of your travel needs.  Do you have a travel bag in need of repair?  Bring it along and stop in this shop.

Finally, on the second morning of the trip, we visit the charming and historic railroad town of Apex for browsing shops located in buildings dating the 1800's for unique arts, crafts, clothing, jewelry and antiques.  Knitters, don't miss the Downtown Knits Shop.  Pop in the Cocoon Gallery and pick up a "fascinator" for next year's Kentucky Derby party.

We overnight at the newly renovated Embassy Suites located across the street from Crabtree Valley Mall.  The decor is contemporary and fun.  Check out the prints of a vodka molecule in the bar.  Who Knew?  Walk or shuttle across the street for dinner at Flemings Prime Steakhouse, McCormick & Schmick's, Seasons 52, P.F. Chang's or Cheesecake Factory to name a few.

8:30am - Depart St. James from the Seaside Parking lot

Approx. 11:30am - Arrive Midtown Raleigh and North Hills Mall for lunch and shopping.  There are some really delicious dining options here!

3pm - Depart North Hills and travel a few short miles to Crabtree Valley Mall for a couple of hours of shopping before check-in time and the Manager's Reception at the Embassy Suites.  Dinner is on your own that evening at any of the great choices at the Mall.  How about Flemming's Prime Steaks, McCormick & Schmick's, or Bistro 52 to name a few.  The Mall is open until 9pm so you can shop some more after dinner if you like.  There is also a great little restaurant on-site at the hotel.

Day Two - Following a hearty breakfast, we stop in Apex on the way home for one final round of "stuffing the bus" with shopping bags.    There will be time to grab lunch at the end of our Apex shopping experience.

      1:30pm - Depart Apex

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

Fantastic day with excellent speakers/docents. Very educational experience at this lovely property. Food was excellent, I enjoyed the owner explaining how they came about owning the Plantation and the organizers did an excellent job keeping all participants safe, hydrated and on time with various stops. Worth every penny!

Had a wonderful time! Loved the 2 Trips with Patty that I’ve done But it would have been nicer to spend more time in the house - upstairs and the basement. The tour guides seemed to truncate and simplify the information. It would have been better if the tour guides knew that this particular group, the St. James Vintage Ladies, were all college educated women who all love and are well versed in history. For this reason I don’t think I got the full value of the price. The lunch was fantastic! The food as well as the serving staff were wonderful. Thanks for all you do, Patty and crew!
