This tour offers Society for Asian Art members the opportunity to step back in time to faraway places -- without leaving the U.S. during the twilight of the COVID-19 pandemic. Accompanied by Indian art scholar Bob del Bontà, we will visit two extraordinary exhibitions at the New Orleans Museum of Art – one focusing on Jain art from India and the other on Roman Catholic Art from Portuguese India. These exhibitions largely draw on works from the private collection of New Orleans-based physician Dr. Siddharth Bhansali, who will also generously welcome us to his home. We are also privileged to be invited to another private collection of Edo-era paintings. Rounding out this tour will be a visit to the renowned National World War II Museum, set on a campus with six pavilions; a walking tour of the Garden District; and the sensational traveling exhibition focusing on Queen Nefertari.
A final, updated Itinerary will be sent to you two weeks prior to the tour.
